====== Setting up DVR storage on QNAP ====== [[:DVR|Go back to all DVR topics]] ===== Requirements ===== **Before you continue, make sure you have the following:** * **[[DVR:subscription|HDHomeRun DVR subscription]]** * One or more compatible HDHomeRun device: see **[[:dvr tuners|List of DVR compatible HDHomeRun devices]]** ===== Install to NAS using a Windows PC ===== If you have a Windows PC, you can use our HDHomeRun setup application to install the DVR storage software to your NAS device. {{ :step_2_-_installer_1_-_run_installer.png?direct&600|}} **Download and install the latest HDHomeRun Windows Setup software (not the Windows Store App):** * **[[http://download.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/hdhomerun_windows.exe|Normal version]]** * **[[https://download.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/hdhomerun_windows_beta.exe|Beta version]]** {{ :step_3_-_setup_app_3_-_nas_install_button.png?direct&600|}} **Launch the HDHomeRun NAS install program:** Run HDHomeRun Setup, go the the DVR tab, and click the NAS Install button. {{ :step_4_-_nas_install_1_-_select_nas.png?direct&600|}} **Select your NAS from detected devices:** The application will auto-detect possible NAS devices on your network using UPnP. Double click on your NAS device to continue. {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_2.png?direct&600|}} **Enable SSH access:** If SSH access is not enabled you will see the message “Please enable SSH access”. To do so, log into the QNAP web interface and click on the **"Control Panel"** icon. {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_3.png?direct&600|}} Then click on the **"Telnet / SSH"** icon. {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_4.png?direct&600|}} - Enable the **"Allow SSH"** checkbox - Then click **"Apply"** {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_5.png?direct&600|}} The install program will auto-detect when SSH has been enabled and then ask you to enter your username and password. **For QNAP NAS's, you will log in with the same username and password that you use for the web interface.** {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_6.png?direct&600|}} **Create a share named "HDHomeRun":** If there is not already a share named HDHomeRun you will see the message "Please create a share named HDHomeRun". To do so, open the **"File Station"** icon on the QNAP web interface. {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_7.png?direct&600|}} - Click on the folder plus sign - Then click on **"Shared Folder"** {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_8.png?direct&600|}} - For the name use HDHomeRun - Then click **"Create"** The install program will auto-detect when the share has been created and continue to the next step. {{ :dvr:nas:qnap_9.png?direct&600|}} **Success:** The NAS Install program should download and start the HDHomeRun RECORD engine and report SUCCESS. Don't forget to turn SSH back off when you are done. **Note:** The current release of the NAS install program will not automatically start the DVR storage software if power is lost or the system reboots.
