VLC media player is a highly regarded free and open source program. It can be used as an alternative client for live TV from HDHomeRun hardware.

No internet needed- VLC can be used without an internet connection to view live TV from HDHomeRun units. As long as there is a local network connection, VLC can present a basic channel list and watch live TV.
Additional supported platforms- VLC has existed for many years and is supported by a massive team of volunteers, allowing it to be supported on many additional platforms where a normal HDHomeRun client might not yet be available.
