1. HDHomeRun network tuner
You will need one of the following supported HDHomeRun models to receive TV broadcasts:

2. DVR Subscription
The HDHomeRun DVR service has two basic “tiers” of service:
Free for all customers
- “Record this airing” (Free for all customers as of 2025-02-11)- selecting a program from the guide/live TV to record that specific episode/movie/event on that specific date and time.
- Extended live TV buffer
- Tuner sharing
- +3 / -3 days of grid guide data - You can see 3 days into the future of TV programming, as well as the last 3 days of data
- Account creation not required - If no account is associated with your HDHomeRun unit, an automatic email-less account is auto-generated for your HDHomeRun unit to keep track of DVR tasks. You can also log in to an expired DVR account so that your tasks stay with you if you move between paid and free tiers.

3. DVR storage device
Local DVR storage is where your recordings will be saved. Our DVR doesn't use “the cloud” or remote locations for storing programs, but instead keeps local copies on your home network, allowing you to store them as long as you wish. Your storage device can be a USB hard drive connected to the HDHomeRun FLEX, a PC, a Mac, or a NAS. Because the DVR storage device handles a lot of video data, we strongly recommend using a wired ethernet connection for your recording device, just like you would with the HDHomeRun tuner.
Only one storage device is needed to serve your entire network. All apps/clients on your network will be able to set new recordings and access previous recordings. You may add more if you need additional storage, additional multi-recording capabilities, or simply want more redundancy in your set up.
4. Using DVR in the HDHomeRun app
You can use our HDHomeRun app on any supported device on your local network to watch live TV, set recordings, and watch recordings. See the guide link below for more information on how to use the app, and what devices are supported.
