How to buy and activate HDHomeRun DVR subscriptions

Go back to all DVR topics

A DVR subscription can be purchased at our online shop and costs $35 per year. The subscription service includes 14 days of guide data. The subscription also keeps track of your upcoming recording “tasks”, helps prevents duplicate recordings, prevents recording programs that you've already watched and wanted deleted, and helps orchestrate all of your DVR storage devices.

The HDHomeRun DVR service is not required if you are using third party DVR software/service.

Step 1

Go to https://shop.silicondust.com and click on the DVR software activation link.

Step 2

Scroll down and click on the “ADD TO CART” button.

Step 3

Scroll down and click on the “PROCEED TO CHECKOUT” button.

Your subscription will automatically renew every year unless you cancel the automatic renewal.

Step 4

Fill in your billing information, as well as choosing a password for your HDHomeRun shop account. Be sure to save your password in a safe place.

When finished, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “PLACE ORDER” button.

This account can be used to manage the automatic renewal for the DVR subscription, and can also cancel automatic annual renewals. You can also use this account to buy additional HDHomeRun hardware and services.

Part 1

After purchasing the DVR subscription from the Silicondust shop website, you should receive an e-mail with your subscription information that looks similar to the image on the right. It will be titled “Your SiliconDust SHOP order receipt.” Do not delete this email, instead store it somewhere safe.

Copy or write down the first 8 digits of your activation code.

If you do not receive your activation e-mail, please contact customer support and tell us your “Device ID” that is printed on the bottom of your HDHomeRun unit (if you have multiple units, only one ID is needed): https://www.silicondust.com/support/trouble-ticket/

Your DVR subscription is tied to your HDHomeRun hardware.

Part 2

  1. Open the HDHomeRun app on a Windows 10/11 PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android phone/tablet/TV, Fire device/TV, or LG smart TV
  2. Press “Back” or the menu button to access the “Live/Recorded/Discover/Tasks” screen
  3. Select the gear icon in the top-right corner
  4. Select “Account information”
  5. Select “Login”
  6. Use the e-mail address you used when you signed up for DVR service
  7. For the activation code, this is where you will enter those first 8 digits of your DVR key
  8. Finally, select “Login” to save the login information

Part 3

If all goes well, you should see your e-mail address under “Account” and “DVR Active” should show “Yes”.

You can now proceed to the next phase, setting up your local DVR storage.

If registration is unsuccessful, please open a trouble ticket: https://www.silicondust.com/support/trouble-ticket/

  • HDHomeRun SCRIBE and HDHomeRun SERVIO units come with a year of included DVR service. DVR service starts when the device is connected to the internet by the customer, automatically. No activation code or account is necessary. A temporary account automatically gets registered when the SCRIBE or SERVIO goes online. We are working on making it so that the HDHomeRun app will warn people if the DVR service is getting close to expiring, allowing them to extend service by purchasing additional years through https://shop.silicondust.com .
  • When the year of DVR service from a SCRIBE or SERVIO is associated with an existing DVR account, the year will be amended to that account.
  • If you have the HDHomeRun devices used for your original DVR set up (as in, you have not replaced any tuner hardware), then simply opening up the HDHomeRun app should prompt an “Account Information” screen that will link your new SCRIBE or SERVIO to the account. Pressing “Continue” on this screen is all you need to do.
  • Alternatively, you can also use the activation link you received when you purchased DVR service, which will associate the SCRIBE or SERVIO to your existing DVR account. Be sure to open the link while connected to the same local network as your SCRIBE or SERVIO. If you no longer have your activation link, please contact support and we will gladly look that information up for you.
