General FAQ
What is the HDHomeRun?
The HDHomeRun is a network-attached digital TV tuner. It connects to your antenna or cable line (depending on model) and takes the digital TV signals available there and makes them available to your PC, tablet, smartphone, game consoles, and other devices over your existing home network.
Can I use the HDHomeRun with satellite?
No. Satellite uses a different transmission system than broadcast or cable TV, and there is no requirement for satellite providers to make their systems available to customer-owned hardware, so they don’t. Their set top boxes do not output a signal that is compatible with any HDHomeRun device.
Can I use the HDHomeRun with a set top box from my cable provider?
No. Set top boxes do not output a digital signal that the HDHomeRun is capable of receiving. If the cable provider still offers CableCARD service, the HDHomeRun PRIME can be used as a cable receiver box, but very few US cable TV providers still offer CableCARD service, or are no longer accepting new installations.
What software can I use with HDHomeRun products?
Our HDHomeRun app is free to download and lets you watch Live TV, pause and rewind live TV, and offers free basic DVR services (when coupled with DVR storage). It has a unified interface across devices and includes program image posters and synopsis, automatic channel rescan, 5.1 Dolby surround, closed captioning and many other great features.
HDHomeRun Tuners also work with many Third party applications.
Can I store my HDHomeRun in an attic that gets very hot/cold? What is the acceptable operating temperature?
HDHomeRun operating temperature is 0-40 °C (32-104 °F) ambient. You should attempt to avoid operating it in places that exceed this temperature.
