HDHomeRun for Fire TV
The official HDHomeRun app will NOT work on the “SELECT” version of the Fire TV stick.
The “Select” version is a cheaper, crappier version of the Fire TV devices, and should be avoided for many reasons, including that it doesn't work with the HDHomeRun app. At this time other versions of Fire TV are not currently affected and should be okay to use.
Install the app
Download the app
- Press the “Home” button on your Fire TV remote and arrow over to the left to select the “Search” icon.
- Arrow down to the search box
- Use the on-screen keyboard to type in “HDHomeRun”. You may only need to type in the first few letters before it shows a result.
- Select the green HDHomeRun icon.
- Select the install button
Optional: Add the HDHomeRun app to the home screen
- You can find the HDHomeRun icon with your other apps, but you can also make it appear on the top row.
- Press “Home” on the Fire TV remote and arrow over to the right till you see the icon of “three boxes and a plus sign”.
- Arrow over to the HDHomeRun icon and select it.

Scan for channels
The HDHomeRun will attempt to automatically scan for channels the first time it is connected to power, and will occasionally do a background scan every few days, but you may still need to run an initial channel scan.
- Scan for channels using the HDHomeRun app:
- Scan for channels using the web interface:

Troubleshooting
Not available on the "Select"
The majority of Fire TV devices run an OS based on Android called Fire OS. The Fire TV Stick 4K that ends with “Select” in its name is a new and runs a different OS, and as such, the current official HDHomeRun app (and many other streaming apps) is not compatible with it.
